Rocking slowly, rhythmic repetition in movement, Impacts features an antique rocking chair with gold leaf repair and a mobile in shades of blue with 52 bell forms inspired by the 52 weeks in a year.
Slowly picking away at the veneer of the antique rocking chair, my children altered my physical world and emotional world. Drawn from the practice of Kintsugi (golden joinery)/Kintsukuroi (golden repair), the rocking chair has been mended with gold leaf, highlighting the physical impact of my children and the preciousness of their presence.
Mobile in Blue, with soft monochromatic blue variations and irregular spacing refers to the way time compresses and expands throughout a year, especially in the first year after having a baby.
The combination of these forms, rocking chair and mobile, are meant to elicit the memories of late night feedings and daytime rests.
